The owner of this Volkswagen Scirocco dropped by for some consultation regarding his car's audio system. We proposed a new android head unit, specifically Teyes CC3 2K for its functionality and quality. It has an excellent audio output plus the ability to run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. No brainer really.

The android is a good option as the installation kit comes with can bus decoders so a lot of the integrated functions can be retained. Steering wheel controls, door open close indication and climate controls all show up in the display. The only downside we found is that the aftermarket kit is that the plastic trim doesn't sit tight to the dashboard. We hope the manufacturers will improve this in the future as the fit is quite disappointing to us.

Besides the head unit, we also added front and rear parking assist cameras to help with parking and to avoid bumping into stuff when parking as the car sits pretty low. A DVR with ADAS capabilities also adds to the safety of the drive.

For an improved audio experience, we replaced both the front and rear speakers with a set of JBL component speakers. We have installed many of these speakers and were once again impressed with their performance. We also soundproofed the front doors and the rear panels near the speakers to reduce vibrations and noise for an improved listening pleasure.

All in all, I think we achieved what we set out to do, and the overall functionality and audio experience is much improved. This was by no means an easy job. For those looking to do the same, please do take note that the Volkswagen can be a difficult car to work on. For the Scirocco, this can be especially true for the rear speakers install, as removing and reinstalling the panels will need a lot of patience. If you can afford to pay a shop to do it, we strongly urge you do so.
